Eye Exams
Our eye exams include a lot more than just reading the eye chart to see if "choice 1 or choice 2 is better". Our exam fee is all inclusive.* Other offices charge extra for visual field test or dilating your eyes. You will receive a customized eye exam based on your visual and medical needs. You can expect your exam to be thorough and efficient. We often hear that eye exams at our office are the most complete and accurate that patients have ever experienced.
Our comprehensive eye examination includes:
- Refraction - Eyeglasses prescription
- Binocular vision evaluation
- Focusing of eyes
- Muscle balance testing
- Depth perception testing
- Color vision testing
- Dry eye testing
- Glaucoma testing - We have an alternative to the "puff of air test"
- Screening visual field testing - peripheral vision
- Blood Pressure Measurement
- Eye health evaluation - This may include dilating your eyes.
- Checking your eyes for problems such as cataracts or macular degeneration.
There are many diseases that can affect the eyes: Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis and Hypertension just to name a few.
*Additional charges may apply for other medical eye testing. Such as: extensive testing for glaucoma, eye infections, foreign body in eye, etc. After a comprehensive eye exam, the doctor will discuss if these additional tests are necessary. Our fees (or insurance coverage if applicable) will be explained to you.
Contact Lens Evaluations
Have you been previously unsuccessful in trying to wear contact lenses? Were the lenses not comfortable? Did you not get clear vision?
At our office, we pride ourselves in customer service. We often hear from patients about how they have had negative experiences when trying contact lenses from other offices. Often, discount or commercial optical centers buy contact lenses from a limited number of vendors and, as a result, most of their patients are fit with practically the same type of contact lens. There are hundreds of different types of contact lenses and one type of lens is not best for everyone. At our office, after a thorough evaluation of your visual needs and eye health, you and the doctor will design a contact lens that will work best for you.
A contact lens evaluation is never completed in just one office visit. To get the most accurate, comfortable, and healthy contact lens fit for your eye the doctor needs to evaluate the lens after you have worn it for a period of time. Your input is very important in the contact lens evaluation / fitting period. Part of the contact lens evaluation is science and part of it is the patient's adaptation to the lens.
These are some reasons why people want contact lenses:
- Wider peripheral vision
- Unobstructed vision
- Great for sports
- No glare from eyeglasses
- No heavy eyeglasses hurting your nose or ears
- Can wear regular sunglasses
- Change your eye color
- Enhance your own eye color
- Clearer vision than in eyeglasses (in some cases)
- Special lenses can even help with extreme light sensitivity, color deficiencies and amblyopia (lazy eye) treatment.

Treatment of Eye Diseases
Often people are confused about what optometrists do. Optometrists can and do treat eye diseases. Optometrists are fully trained to treat eye diseases such as "pink eye", dry eyes, allergic eyes, etc. The laws for optometrists vary per state.
Laser Vision Correction Consultation
As much as the commercials make it sound like laser vision correction is for everyone, it is not. For the right candidate, it can be a great option to correct your vision. After a thorough eye examination, our doctors can discuss the best options for your eyes.
Consultation by an independent doctor is extremely important when seeking laser vision surgery. Our doctors have seen the results of various laser vision correction surgeons from all around San Diego County, and can help serve as a co-manager of your care throughout the eye surgery process.
